about

My concept for this piece of music began from the quotation of Russian orthodox priest Anthony of Surozh:
"If we want to watch birds waking up and coming to life in the field or in the forest, we should get up before them. We should be watchful and perceptive, before the first bird wakes up, even before the birds feel the dawn. Then we should go to the forest or field and stay there without any motion, without any noise, being at the same time in full relaxation in order not to disturb creatures sleeping lightly. Otherwise, they will run or fly away where we can neither hear them nor see. Bird-watching means, first of all, silence and peace and also sensitiveness in its highest degree, because when you are in the field sleeping out the dreams of your short night, all birds can fly away before you feel that the sun is rather hot. It is absolutely necessary to harmonize this deep sensitiveness with immobility and relaxation."
When I read this, I was overcome with an idea to produce a work giving a musical impression of the inner atmosphere, which could combine in itself the dialectic of movement and silence, peace and inner activity. As I developed this work, I envisioned music minimalistic in design yet flowing dynamically through distinct rhythms and the harmonic calling of birds. I now offer you the musical atmosphere of contemplative silence grounded in the deep sensitiveness and peace mentioned by Anthony of Surozh.
